Inmate charged with murder-for-hire

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - An inmate at Montgomery County Jail is accused of plotting a murder-for-hire.
Officials said Robert Rose was using released inmates to arrange a hit on a man involved with his ex-girlfriend.
Major Scott Landis of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said there were contacts being made and it was to the point that something was going to happen if  they did not step in.

Cops bust suspects after home invasion

EATON, Ohio (WDTN) - Two suspects in a home invasion shooting were arrested in Preble County.
The Preble County Sherrif said the suspects forcibly entered a home on October 22, 2009 in the 4700 block of US 35 West and assaulted a male resident. The resident shot one of the intruders.
The Wayne County, Indiana Sheriff's office reported they received calls that a person driving on IS 70 West had been shot.
Preble County deputies discovered that the occupants in the car were involved in the home invasion.
The suspect who was shot is a 26 year old male from Richmond Indiana. He is listed in serious condition at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
Two suspects, a 24 year old male and a 22 year old male, both from Richmond, Indiana are being held in the Preble County Jail.

Cops target Halloween drunk drivers

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Local law enforcement will be on the streets cracking down on drunk drivers this Halloween weekend.
A sobriety checkpoint will be conducted on October 30, 2009 at the intersection of N. Dixie and Palisades Drives in Harrison Township.
"With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, we want to make sure revelers aren't taking the party to the roadways," said Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that 58% of all highway fatalities on Halloween night in 2008 involved a driver over the legal alcohol limit.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Montgomery County combined agency O.V.I Task Force are teaming up for the roadside checks.

Cops are looking for credit card thief

NEW LEBANNON, Ohio (WDTN) - New Lebanon police are on the hunt for a woman going on shopping sprees with a stolen credit card.
Police said she has used the stolen credit card at Meijer on State Route 741 in Miami Township and area gas stations.
The credit card was taken from a car during robberies in New Lebanon, in September.

Suspect: "Buildings are my canvas"

Indianapolis, IN (WDTN) - A man known for his vandalism in the Dayton area was recently arrested in Indianapolis.
Miguel Villanueva was arrested November 6, 2009.
Villanueva is known for the tag "Choke" here in the Dayton area and across the country.
It has been spray painted on buildings, bilboards, street signs and etched in glass. Dayton police have been trying to catch this man for years.
Villanueva is accused of causing $100,000 in property damage.
After his arrest Villanueva said he's and artist, and that buildings are his canvas. Police call it vandalism. 

Doctor charged in murder-for-hire plot

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The Montgomery County Prosecutors approved a conspiracy to commit murder charge against Dr. Shafik Ahmad, on October 23, 2009.
Deputies said a man came forward and told them that Ahmad approached him about a murder-for-hire plot and made a partial payment.
Ahmad was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Wednesday, October 21, accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill his ex-wife.
Ahmad remains behind bars.
